SASSA Beneficiaries Urged to Switch to Postbank Black Card Before May 31, 2025

With April 2025 SASSA grant payments set to begin in just a few days, government officials are warning that beneficiaries still using the old SASSA Gold Card must migrate to the new Postbank Black Card before the May 31 deadline.

As of now, 1.3 million out of 2.6 million beneficiaries have successfully made the switch. Those who don’t act soon risk losing access to their grant funds, even though the money will still be paid into their bank accounts.

⚠️ No Access Without the Black Card After May 2025

Beneficiaries who fail to collect their new Black Card by the end of May will not be able to withdraw or use their social grants, even though the funds will be deposited.

“The grant will still be paid into your bank account, but you can only access the funds using the new Postbank Black Card,” officials warned.

🕒 Over 60 Days Given – Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute

Postbank is urging all remaining beneficiaries to avoid last-minute delays, noting that their systems are currently stable and processing over 30,000 cards per day.

“There are no system issues. We’re managing queues, but the longer people wait, the busier our sites will get—especially closer to the deadline.”

There are currently over 350 active card swap sites operating nationally, located in major retail outlets including:

• Usave
• Pick n Pay
• Spar
• Boxer

🔍 Fraud and Theft Under Investigation

As the grant system approaches its 19th anniversary, authorities have been stepping up efforts to fight rising fraud and theft affecting the welfare system.

A recent continuous review process has led to investigations involving:

• Suspicious transaction patterns
• Missing beneficiary files
• Data inconsistencies

“These efforts have already resulted in multiple officials being caught and subjected to further investigation,” said Bangash.
