SASSA Gold Card Extended for Two More Months – Beneficiaries Must Switch by May 2025 Johannesburg, South Africa Postbank CEO Niki Mngomezulu Bangash has confirmed that the SASSA Gold Card will remain valid for social grant payments until the end of May 2025. This extension provides an additional two months of access for 1.3 million beneficiaries who have not yet transitioned to the new Postbank Black Card.

Bangash emphasized that this is the final extension for the SASSA Gold Card. Beneficiaries must apply for the Postbank Black Card before the end of May to avoid losing access to their grant payments.

“We have extended the usage of the SASSA Gold Card until the end of May 2025 for those who haven’t had the time to replace it. But this is the last extension—there will be no further grace periods,” said Bangash.

✅ How the SASSA Gold Card Can Still Be Used

Beneficiaries can continue using their SASSA Gold Cards for the next two months in the following ways:

• Swipe to make purchases at any retailer (partnered or not)
• Withdraw cash at any ATM, regardless of the bank
• Use retailers like Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer, and Checkers for both purchases and withdrawals

“The card works the same as before. You can use it anywhere—partner retailer or not,” she added.

🚫 Do Not Visit the Post Office If Your Gold Card Still Works

Postbank is urging beneficiaries not to go to the Post Office if their Gold Card is still active and functioning.

“If your SASSA Gold Card is working, do not visit the Post Office out of choice. It will not assist you unless your card is lost or non-functional,” said Bangash.

However, some services at the Post Office will still be available:

• Over-the-counter cash withdrawals for those who lost their cards
• Access for asylum seekers and Flexi Card customers who were already using post office services before the Black Card rollout

📝 Apply for the SASSA Black Card ASAP

The Black Card is the new official SASSA payment card and will be required for future payments after May 2025. Beneficiaries should apply as soon as possible to avoid delays or missed payments. Postbank has assured the public that they are managing queues efficiently at all application centers.
